Stop the U.S. Military Attack on Venezuela!
Respect the Sovereignty of
Press Statement
This week, on January 3, our serious attention has been drawn to the extremely grave military attack and genocidal intervention carried out by the current Government of the United States against Venezuelan territory and its population, targeting civilian and military locations in the capital city Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro.
Such naked imperialist intervention by the United States cannot be silently tolerated by justice-loving, hardworking, laboring people across the world. Therefore, it has become an urgent necessity for justice-loving people everywhere to reject, condemn, and denounce this attack.
This action by the United States constitutes a clear and blatant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly Articles 1 and 2. By attacking the national existence and dignity of the independent and sovereign state of Venezuela, it attempts to set a precedent contrary to the spirit of the UN Charter, undermining the legal recognition of independent nations, the principle of sovereign equality, and the prohibition of the use of force. Such aggression is certain to endanger international peace and stability, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, and puts the lives of millions of people at serious risk.
The objective of this U.S. attack is nothing other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals, and to forcibly undermine the country’s political independence.
However, they will not succeed. After more than 200 years of independence, the people and their legitimate government remain firmly committed to defending their sovereignty and their inalienable right to decide their own destiny. Attempts to impose a colonial war in alliance with fascist elites to destroy the republican form of government and force “regime change” must fail, as have all previous attempts, and will be defeated by the united resistance and struggle of justice-loving people.
Since 1811, Venezuela has continuously confronted and defeated imperialist interventions. In 1902, when foreign powers bombarded our coasts, President Cipriano Castro declared: “The arrogant foot of a foreigner has desecrated the sacred soil of the homeland.” Today, with the spirit of Bolívar, Miranda, and our liberators, the Venezuelan people have once again risen to defend their independence against imperialist aggression.
The Bolivarian government has mobilized all social and political forces of the country and activated plans to reject this imperialist attack. The Venezuelan people and their Bolivarian National Armed Forces, in full popular–military–police unity, remain deployed to guarantee sovereignty and peace.
In accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, Venezuela reserves the legitimate right to self-defense to protect its people, territory, and independence.
In this exceptional situation, we, the workers of Nepal affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), express our deep sorrow, condemnation, and denunciation of the imperialist atrocities and genocidal actions of the United States. We strongly demand the immediate cessation of this military aggression. We also extend our special wishes for courage, resilience, and determination to the justice-loving and patriotic people and government of Venezuela to carry out strong resistance against this imperialist attack.
Furthermore, we declare our firm commitment to solidarity, including all possible moral and material support, in the united movement of justice-loving working people and nations around the world, including Venezuela, against U.S. imperialist bullying, intervention, and genocidal terror.
In times of global crisis for nations: As Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez Frías stated, “In the face of any new difficulty, regardless of its magnitude, the role and responsibility of all patriots is unity, struggle, struggle, and victory.”
Inspired by this great guidance, advancing the just struggle of justice-loving working people worldwide against imperialist terror has become today’s primary task.
In conclusion, we stand for peace and justice, not war and destruction.
Therefore:
• We urgently appeal for the immediate cessation of the U.S. military attack on Venezuela and for the protection of humanity’s right to life.
• We call for respect for the independence of sovereign states.
• Release the abducted President Nicolás Maduro with dignity and safety!
• Stop war, aggression, intervention, and genocide in Venezuela!
• Ensure humanity’s freedom and right to live!
• End imperialist bullying!
• Establish the role of the United Nations to end intervention against member states, including Venezuela!
• Long live the anti-imperialist solidarity of justice-loving working people of the world!
• Long live the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU)!
